حماد بن أبي سليمان

Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman (RH)

c. 56–120 AH · c. 675–738 CE

Fiqh

Jurist of Kufa and the teacher with whom Abu Hanifa studied for some eighteen years.

Hammad was the leading student of Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and succeeded him as the head of the circle of jurisprudence in Kufa. He also narrated from Anas ibn Malik.

Abu Hanifa attached himself to Hammad and studied with him for about eighteen years until Hammad's death in 120 AH, after which Abu Hanifa took over the circle. In this way the legal tradition of Ibn Mas'ud, 'Alqamah and Ibrahim became the foundation of the Hanafi school.
