Hadith
Baghdad's great hadith critic, master of the hidden defects ('ilal) of narrations.
Al-Daraqutni was the leading hadith critic of fourth-century Baghdad and a master of Quran recitation. His particular expertise was in 'ilal, the hidden defects in chains and texts that only careful comparison reveals.
His al-'Ilal and his al-Ilzamat wa al-Tatabbu', which critically examines some reports in the two Sahihs, show his precision. His Sunan collects legal hadith with comments on their reliability.
