In Aceh, 'Abd al-Ra'uf al-Singkili completed Tarjuman al-Mustafid, the first commentary on the whole Quran in Malay. It drew mainly on the tafsir of al-Baydawi and al-Jalalayn, was reprinted in Istanbul, Cairo and Makkah, and was used across the Malay world for three centuries.
