Swallowed by the whale, he called out in the darkness and was saved.
Yunus left his people in anger before Allah permitted him to. He boarded a ship and was cast into the sea, where a great fish swallowed him. In the darkness he called out: 'There is no god but You, glory be to You; truly I have been among the wrongdoers.' Allah answered him and cast him onto the shore.
His people are the only nation in the Quran that believed as a whole after first rejecting their prophet, so the punishment was lifted from them. His supplication is one of the most widely recited du'as.
