Umm Salamah, Hind bint Abi Umayyah
Also known as: Ummu Salamah, Umm al-Mu'minin
c. 27 BH – c. 61 AH · c. 596–c. 681 CE
Companions
Mother of the Believers, known for her wisdom, and the last of the Prophet's wives to pass away.
Umm Salamah and her husband Abu Salamah were among the early Muslims who sought refuge in Abyssinia. When they set out for Madinah, her clan held her back and took her son from her. She wept every day for about a year until she was allowed to leave, and she then travelled alone with her child to join her husband.
After Abu Salamah died of wounds from Uhud, she married the Prophet ﷺ. At Hudaybiyyah, when the Companions hesitated to leave their sacrifice, she advised the Prophet ﷺ to shave his head first in silence, and they all followed. She narrated many hadith and was the last of the Mothers of the Believers to die.
