Companions
One of the Ten Promised Paradise, who shielded the Prophet ﷺ with his body at Uhud.
Talhah was among the first eight to accept Islam, through Abu Bakr. At Uhud, when the Muslim lines broke, he stood in front of the Prophet ﷺ and shielded him with his own body, losing the use of his hand. The Prophet ﷺ said of him that whoever wished to see a martyr walking on the earth should look at Talhah.
He was a generous merchant, known as Talhah al-Khayr and Talhah al-Fayyad for his giving. He was one of the six named by 'Umar to choose the next caliph. In the strife (fitnah) after the killing of 'Uthman, he was killed at the Battle of the Camel in 36 AH. He is one of the Ten Promised Paradise.
