Companions
One of the Ten Promised Paradise, victor of al-Qadisiyyah and founder of Kufa.
Sa'd accepted Islam at about seventeen, among the very first believers, and he was a maternal relative of the Prophet ﷺ. He was the first to shoot an arrow in the cause of Allah. At Uhud the Prophet ﷺ handed him arrows, saying: 'Shoot, may my father and mother be ransomed for you.'
Under 'Umar he commanded the army that defeated the Sasanian Persians at al-Qadisiyyah, and he founded the city of Kufa. During the strife after 'Uthman he kept away from the fighting and retired to his estate near Madinah. He is one of the Ten Promised Paradise.
