Rulers Melaka Sultanate
Sultan of Melaka who made Islam the religion of the state and began its code of laws.
Muzaffar Shah came to the throne of Melaka in 1445 after a struggle at court. The Sejarah Melayu says he was the first of its rulers to take the title Sultan, and under him Islam became the religion of the state.
With his chief minister Tun Perak he turned back attacks from Siam and extended Melaka's power along the Straits. The Undang-Undang Melaka, the law code that joined Islamic rulings with Malay custom, is said to have been begun in his reign.
