Also known as: Musab
c. 38 BH – 3 AH · c. 585–625 CE
Companions
The first envoy of Islam, sent to teach the people of Madinah before the Hijrah.
Mus'ab was a young man of Makkah known for his fine clothes and comfortable life. He gave it all up when he accepted Islam, and his family imprisoned him and cut him off. After the First Pledge of 'Aqabah, the Prophet ﷺ sent him to Yathrib to teach the new Muslims the Quran. Through his gentle preaching many leading men of the city entered Islam, preparing the way for the Hijrah.
He carried the Muslims' banner at Badr and Uhud, and he was killed at Uhud. He died so poor that his cloak could not cover his whole body, and his feet were covered with grass.
