Indian hadith teacher, the "Shaykh al-Hadith" of Saharanpur, author of Fada'il-e-A'mal.
Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi was born in Kandhla in northern India into a family of scholars. He studied at Mazahir al-Ulum in Saharanpur with Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri, whom he helped write a commentary on the Sunan of Abu Dawud, and he taught hadith there for about half a century, becoming known simply as Shaykh al-Hadith.
His Awjaz al-Masalik is a large commentary on Malik's Muwatta'. His Urdu collections of hadith on the virtues of prayer, the Quran, remembrance and charity, gathered as Fada'il-e-A'mal, are read aloud daily in mosques and homes worldwide through the Tablighi Jamaat, founded by his uncle Muhammad Ilyas.
