Prophets Named in the Quran
The Seal of the Prophets, sent as a mercy to all the worlds.
Muhammad ﷺ was born in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant, to the clan of Hashim of Quraysh. His father died before his birth and his mother when he was six. He was raised by his grandfather 'Abd al-Muttalib and then his uncle Abu Talib, and he became known among his people as al-Amin, the trustworthy.
At about forty, while in retreat in the Cave of Hira, he received the first revelation of the Quran through the angel Jibril. After thirteen years of preaching and persecution in Makkah, he migrated to Madinah in 622 CE, the event that begins the Hijri calendar. There he established the first Muslim community. Makkah was opened in 8 AH, and he passed away in Madinah in 11 AH, having conveyed the message in full.
