Khadijah (RA)
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid
Also known as: Khadija, Siti Khadijah, Umm al-Mu'minin
c. 68 BH – 3 BH · c. 555–619 CE
Companions
The first wife of the Prophet ﷺ and the first person to believe in his message.
Khadijah was a respected and wealthy merchant of Quraysh, known as al-Tahirah, the pure one. Impressed by the honesty of the young Muhammad ﷺ, who led one of her trade caravans to Syria, she proposed marriage to him. They were married for about twenty-five years, and she was the mother of all his children except Ibrahim.
When he returned trembling from the Cave of Hira after the first revelation, she comforted him and became the first to believe in him. She spent her wealth supporting the message and endured the years of boycott with him. Her death, in the same year as Abu Talib's, became known as the Year of Sorrow. The Prophet ﷺ remembered her with love for the rest of his life.
