Prophets Named in the Quran

Sent to a people who worshipped the idol Ba'l.

Ilyas called his people to abandon the worship of Ba'l and to worship 'Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers' (37:126). Most of them rejected him, except the sincere servants of Allah. The Quran sends peace upon him: 'Peace be upon Ilyasin' (37:130).

He is usually identified with the Biblical Elijah. Commentators place his mission among the Children of Israel in the land of Sham, and say that Alyasa' was his student and successor.
