Prophets Named in the Quran
A truthful prophet whom Allah 'raised to a high station'.
The Quran describes Idris as a man of truth and a prophet, patient and among the righteous, whom Allah raised to a high station. Many classical commentators identify him with Enoch (Akhnukh), placing him among the early descendants of Adam before Nuh.
Later tradition credits him with being among the first to write with a pen and to sew clothing, though these reports come from historical narratives rather than the Quran or sound hadith. In the hadith of the Mi'raj, the Prophet ﷺ met him in the fourth heaven.
