Fiqh Hanafi
Hanafi jurist of Cairo, known for his work on legal maxims, al-Ashbah wa al-Naza'ir.
Ibn Nujaym was a leading Hanafi scholar of Cairo in the early Ottoman period, known for his precision and productivity. He also followed the Sufi path.
His al-Ashbah wa al-Naza'ir organises Hanafi law around a set of general legal maxims, such as 'harm is to be removed' and 'custom is decisive', and became the classic Hanafi work of its kind. His al-Bahr al-Ra'iq is a major commentary on the legal text Kanz al-Daqa'iq.
