Habib al-Rahman al-A'zami (RH)

Hadith Hanafi

Indian hadith scholar who edited the Musannaf of 'Abd al-Razzaq.

Habib al-Rahman al-A'zami was born in Mau in northern India and studied at the madrasahs of Mau and at Deoband. He spent most of his life teaching in his home town and working on manuscripts.

He is known above all for his editions of early hadith collections that had never been printed, made from manuscripts gathered from libraries around the world: the Musannaf of 'Abd al-Razzaq in eleven volumes, the Musnad of al-Humaydi, the Sunan of Sa'id ibn Mansur and Kitab al-Zuhd of Ibn al-Mubarak. These editions made the earliest layers of hadith literature available to scholars everywhere.
