Fatimah al-Zahra' (RA)

Fatimah al-Zahra' bint Muhammad

Also known as: Fatima, Siti Fatimah, al-Batul

c. 18 BH – 11 AH · c. 605–632 CE

Companions

Daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and Khadijah, wife of 'Ali, and mother of al-Hasan and al-Husayn.

Fatimah was the youngest daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and Khadijah. As a girl in Makkah she cleaned the filth that the Quraysh threw on her father as he prayed. She was known for resembling him most in her manner and speech, and he would stand to greet her and seat her in his place.

She married 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, and their children al-Hasan, al-Husayn, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum continued the Prophet's family line. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Fatimah is a part of me.' During his final illness he told her she would be the first of his family to join him, and she died about six months after him.
