Fiqh Shafi'i
One of the 'two shaykhs' of the later Shafi'i school, with al-Nawawi.
'Abd al-Karim al-Rafi'i taught Quran commentary and hadith in Qazvin and was known for his asceticism. His great work, al-'Aziz fi Sharh al-Wajiz (also called al-Sharh al-Kabir), is a commentary on al-Ghazali's al-Wajiz that carefully sifts the many opinions within the Shafi'i school.
His al-Muharrar, a concise text, was later abridged by al-Nawawi as Minhaj al-Talibin. Later Shafi'i scholars treat the agreed positions of al-Rafi'i and al-Nawawi, 'the two shaykhs', as the authoritative view of the school.
