Hadith Shafi'i

Author of Tarikh Baghdad and of foundational works on the methods of hadith.

Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn 'Ali, known as al-Khatib al-Baghdadi, was the preacher of Baghdad's great mosque and the leading hadith scholar of the city in his age. He moved from the Hanbali to the Shafi'i school.

His Tarikh Baghdad contains over seven thousand biographies of scholars and notable people connected with the city, and it is a major source used on this site. He also wrote books on almost every branch of hadith study, such as al-Kifayah fi 'Ilm al-Riwayah, which later scholars said everyone after him depended on.
