Mansur ibn Yunus al-Buhuti

1000–1051 AH · 1591–1641 CE

Fiqh Hanbali

The leading Hanbali jurist of Ottoman Egypt, whose commentaries define the later school.

Al-Buhuti was the head of the Hanbali scholars in Cairo in the seventeenth century, at a time when the school had few followers in Egypt.

His commentaries Kashshaf al-Qina' and Sharh Muntaha al-Iradat, together with his explanation of the primer Zad al-Mustaqni', al-Rawd al-Murbi', became the main references for the settled positions of the later Hanbali school. They are still used in teaching and in courts in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.
