'A'ishah bint Abi Bakr
Also known as: Aisyah, Aisha, Umm al-Mu'minin, al-Siddiqah
c. 9 BH – 58 AH · c. 613–678 CE
Companions
Mother of the Believers, daughter of Abu Bakr, and one of the greatest scholars among the Companions.
'A'ishah was the daughter of Abu Bakr and grew up in a Muslim household in Makkah. She married the Prophet ﷺ and joined his household in Madinah, where the Prophet ﷺ spent his final illness in her room and was buried there.
She was one of the most learned of the Companions in the Quran, hadith, law, poetry and medicine. She narrated over two thousand hadith, and senior Companions brought their legal questions to her. Her innocence from a slander spread against her was declared in the Quran (24:11–20). After the Prophet ﷺ she taught for nearly fifty years, and many of the jurists of Madinah were her students.
