Prophets Named in the Quran
The first human being and the first prophet, father of humankind.
Allah created Adam from clay, taught him the names of all things, and commanded the angels to prostrate to him. Iblis refused out of pride. Adam and his wife Hawwa lived in the Garden until they ate from the forbidden tree. They repented, Allah accepted their repentance, and they were sent down to earth.
Islam does not regard Adam's slip as an inherited sin. His story is told as the first lesson in human error, repentance and divine mercy. He is honoured as the first prophet, and through him human beings were appointed as khalifah (stewards) on earth.
Life journey
- Associated Arafat عرفاتTradition holds that Adam and Hawwa were reunited at Arafat after descending to earth. Reports differ on where each first descended.
