Sufism & Theology Hanbali Sufism Hadith
'The sage of Herat', Hanbali hadith scholar and Sufi, author of Manazil al-Sa'irin.
'Abd Allah al-Ansari was a descendant of the Companion Abu Ayyub al-Ansari. He was a Hanbali hadith scholar who opposed speculative theology, and he was persecuted for it several times.
He was also a beloved Sufi teacher. His Manazil al-Sa'irin (Stations of the Wayfarers) describes one hundred stages of the spiritual path, and Ibn al-Qayyim later wrote a long commentary on it. His Persian prayers, the Munajat, remain classics of Persian literature.
