The Aceh War begins

Banda Aceh آتشيه

The Netherlands declared war on the Sultanate of Aceh in 1873. Resistance, led by the sultan's commanders and increasingly by the ulama, lasted some thirty years and more, making it one of the longest colonial wars. The Hikayat Prang Sabi poems urged the fighters on.
